There's a way to think about your organization that involves and includes everyone in ways that are meaningful and satisfying. We've found that for an organization to be truly effective communities that learn and grow and produce together is essential.
There's a way to think about your organization that involves and includes everyone in ways that are meaningful and satisfying. We've found that for an organization to be truly effective communities that learn and grow and produce together is essential.
We have begun to describe the community building process as a 3 step progression:
Step 1. Build a group into an "Authentic Community" by teaching the group the guidelines and principles of authentic, communication. An authentic community learns to monitor its group dynamics and to promote a spirit of authentic human connection. This provides an environment in which it is safe to learn and develop capabilities.
Step 2. A Learning Community maintains the qualities of authentic community and communication while engaging in the conduct of work. Operating as an authentic community the group will learn as they conduct various tasks - as they set agendas for their meetings, engage in establishing priorities, engage in decision making, and problem solving they will be learning to be inclusive of individual differences and to be inclusive of new group members, etc. The abilities to learn collectively and exhibit collective intelligence are prominent features of a learning community. The practice of Daily Work becomes the curriculum.

The whole business becomes a knowledge-creating community, building upon its foundations as an authentic learning community and mastering the communal knowledge creation process -- the group's ability to create bring new knowledge, innovation and insight that surpasses what they could learn from others. A knowledge-creating community goes beyond the mere sharing of data and information as individuals and groups work to access the Source of communal knowledge for the highest effectiveness of the whole.
